San Andreas (2015) - Movie thoughts

**********************************
A seemingly ideal day turns disastrous when California's notorious San Andreas fault triggers a devastating, magnitude 9 earthquake, the largest in recorded history. As the Earth cracks open and buildings start to crumble, Ray Gaines (Dwayne Johnson), an LAFD search-and-rescue helicopter pilot, must navigate the destruction from Los Angeles to San Francisco to bring his estranged wife (Carla Gugino) and their only daughter (Alexandra Daddario) to safety.

**********************************

I am sorry but this did not impress me.  It is a really big budget movie with HUGE special effects (and kudos to those involved) but the story is just one more disaster movie.  Don't get me wrong, "end-of-the-world" movies are favourites but I felt just a bit too bored here.  I cannot believe the luck that Ray and Carla had. . . . and driving basically a rubber duck through a tsunami . . . .  yeah.

Anyway, not bad if you are just looking for some very light entertainment.  Take a look and let me know if I am too hard on them :)

Movie Review: Paranormal Activity 2

image

I saw Paranormal Activity (the first one) about a month ago when my bother-in-law visited with the movie in hand.  Let me just say . . . I scare easily and till today, I still get a creepy feeling when I have to get up at night and the clock-radio says 3am!  When I tell people I was too scared to let my foot stick out under the duvet, they just laugh at me!

So I wasn’t too keen when BIL showed up this afternoon with the second movie.

I am glad to say that I enjoyed it much more (maybe because it was still light outside?).  This second movie has much more story than the first one.  The first movie used scare tactics to get their point across while the PA2 has much more story.  The scary stuff built slowly, up till the last thirty minutes when all heck broke loose . . . let’s just say I didn’t see the end coming.

This movie is mostly a prequel to the first Paranormal Activity and then towards the end it runs parallel to the first.  It was also fun when the actors of the first movie made appearances and became part of the storyline.  I don’t want to give too much away because then I will just spoil it for you but I would suggest that you watch these two movies in sequence.  How about you just take a look at the trailer below?

I recommend this movie for some mindless fun :)

And another weekend bites the dust.

It Sunday evening and I am trying to get my mind right so that I am not in a bad mood tomorrow when I have to get up for work. This week is only going to be four days long (yeahhh) and that is because Thursday is a public holiday. Hopefully that will mean that Friday will be a slow day . . . here's hoping! Last time I had that hope it turned out horribly (see a few posts back). It is still early, so I am positive.

I did do some stitching (off course) and here it is:

And let the confetti start falling . . . so far it is only red and black but hey, it's only page 1!! Still my favourite piece so far. MAMMA MIA is on the dish tonight, so I will be doing a little of the "good stuff" (as Nancy calls it) while watching.
